Hello Angels!

Rhonda K. here, writing to share some wonderful news with you all, and invite you to a few events this week. I know it’s a lot for one week, yet the events are spread out over the week and the Valley, so I hope you can come to the one that is most convenient to you. I hope to see many of you some time this week. :~)!

First, I am so excited to share with you the wonderful news! We have received a generous offer from a mechanic with a specialized local business to complete the repairs on Bessie! Thanks to the continued support of The Strip Kiwanis Club, and their members and supporters, word got around to a generous pair of Angels, and the work Bessie needs to have done to repair her I-beam and Radius arm bushings has been offered to be donated to Project AngelFaces! This will complete the bit of work she needed for her makeover, and will make it possible for us to do so much more work in building our gardens, and our programs! So please join me in sending a big THANK YOU! to Gordon Smith, Sherrie Hermann, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hughes of ‘Southern Equipment Services’ for their help in arranging for Project AngelFaces to receive such a wonderful and much needed gift! Thank you all for your service, so very much! I am humbled and grateful to receive your generosity and kindness. Thank you so much.

I will keep you all posted on Bessie’s continued progress, and she will be at the upcoming FUNdraiser party in February, showing off her makeover and readiness to get to work! (in case you didn’t know, Bessie is a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck that has been donated to Project AngelFaces from William W. Reymond to support our efforts and increase our efficacy and capacity. Yay! Thank you! William! Such generosity and kindness is humbly received, and much, much needed. Thank you!)

Tuesday afternoon at Greener Vegas Warehouse we are in need of a crew who is strong and handy with tools to dismantle and prepare some crates for transport and transformation into raised garden beds for the New Garden Club Garden! Greener Vegas/Repurpose America is moving from their current           location at 3350 W. Ali Baba Ln. Suite G, Las Vegas, NV 89118. We will be working over there from 2pm- 4pm, breaking down 2 crates we have been donated (Thank you Zachary, Cynthia, Tim and everyone over there!) and loading them into Bessie for delivery. If you’re coming and you have them, please bring your skill or circular saws,  your prybars, protective eyewear, and work gloves. I know it’s short notice, but its only 2 crates and if we have 3-5 folks it shouldn’t take us more than an hour. Please come join us in receiving this wonderful donation from Greener Vegas/Repurpose America, whose support and generosity is making it possible to build the first 10 raised beds for the New Garden Club Garden! Each crate they donate is repurposed into 2 raised beds, so we can really do a lot to repurpose the wood and these crates! Help    us make it happen, please! Call, message, text or email me for directions and other questions, and, of course, to RSVP!

Next up, we are preparing to work on the New Vista Garden of Project AngelFaces with some creative efforts to support an upcoming NEW fundraiser that New Vista Community has created to increase the fun we can have while raising funds and awareness for their agency and its programs. Project             AngelFaces will be on deck on 16 January 2010, at Emergency Arts Downtown for the first ever “Shabby $hic Sunday” art sale!
Our table will be selling works from local artists to raise funds for the Garden of Project AngelFaces at New Vista Ranch. Various wares from visual arts, to wearable arts, to handmade artisan crafts, all priced under $100.00, will be sold to benefit their Organic Garden Program, created by Project AngelFaces. New Vista Community creates programs and a system to enable the developmentally disabled community to live life to the fullest. See the following links to learn more about New Vista, and Shabby $chic Sunday!

We will be having a wonderfully creative time, in the Afternoon, and the schedule is pretty loose. So if you have a bit of time, and you’re feeling creative, come on over! We’ll eat some lunch together, have some tea and have a ball creating some artworks to sell at Shabby $hic Sunday! Join us! Call me for specific directions, times, and other details, or to donate your artwork. I will come pick up any pieces you are willing to donate!

On Thursday, we’ll be out at New Vista Ranch doing some work in the garden, from 9 am- 1 pm, so if you have time and would like to help us complete the garden and ready the beds for spring. Please Join us! We will be working, and having fun, building the garden and our community in fellowship and service the members of New Vista Community. We have always had a good time creating this garden program for them, and the times have never been so exciting before, as we ready their garden for a complete launch this spring! Come out and have some fun with us Thursday if you’re able! Please RSVP to let me know you’re coming to join us, and for directions. New Vista Ranch is located at 7576 N. Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131. There is construction out there right now, so please call me for specific directions; I can tell you how to navigate the construction!

We feel honored and blessed by your generosity, your kindness, and your support! Thank you!!

Hello Angels! This week I spent a good amount of time with our longtime supporter, amazing researcher/resource, and sweet sweet friend, Jenn Von Bork. Jenn, you will be so very much missed, but your caring and your support will live on in the generosity of the donations you have made to Project AngelFaces. Thank you so much for all you have done to contribute to the gardening community in Las Vegas. You have started a groundswell, and you have been so generous with sharing your talented research abilities as well as your passion for organic gardening. We cannot thank you enough for your kindness and willingness to take action and share. Merci Boucoup!

We are now the grateful caretakers of four new grapevines and several strawberry plants, courtesy of the Von Borks. We have carefully transplanted these very well loved and healthy plants out of their home at Jenn’s house,  and they are being carefully tended in their temporary home until the time when we are ready to put them in their more permanent place in one of the Gardens of Project AngelFaces. We don’t yet know if they will all be in one place or just what, but we do know that we will take great care of them wherever they find their permanent placement. Thank you so much to Shaun Abel, and Francisco Soto-Angeles for your time and your efforts in helping us transplant these vines and plants!

This week we are asking for contributions from artists: if you have any pieces under $100 you are willing to donate to an upcoming fundraiser with New Vista Community, called Shabby $hic Sundays at Emergency Arts Downtown on the 16th.

We will have a space that will be raising funds specifically for the Garden of Project AngelFaces at New Vista Ranch at this exciting and fun event. Please contact me to deliver what art pieces you have to contribute by Wednesday at Noon. Thank you so much!

I will be publishing the calendar of events soon, so keep an eye out. I have received several great ideas so far, and I am still hoping to hear some more for our fundraiser party, so keep me posted, and don’t be afraid to let it be FUN!

Everyone is invited to join me on Tuesday for some creative fun time. We are making hand pressed flower cards to contribute to the fundraiser on the 16th, as well as Barely Panties Under G’s. It will be fun, we’ll have snacks, and I look forward to seeing how productive we can be! Keep Bessie in mind, too , as we are still looking for a good mechanic to complete her repairs. Also, soon, I’ll be posting up a call to assist us in transplanting a Meyer Lemon tree (also donated from the Von Borks… Thanks again!), named Mortimer. We’ll need a handful of strong folks for that one, and you will learn a lot during this transplant, as well.

Thanks everyone, and I look forward to hearing from you, and seeing you, soon!

Hello Angels! Happy New Year! I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for being a part of Project AngelFaces. Your support makes my work possible, and is crucial to our success. Thank YOU!
Now that I have finished school (I graduated from UNLV in December Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Social Work degree), I am fully dedicated to growing Project AngelFaces even stronger. I hope to see you all at events upcoming at one of the gardens, or, come spring, in a fruit tree (or several). There will be a schedule posted up for the next 6 months of events, very soon. Please take a look at it, and mark you calendars, and RSVP!!!

Many of you may know of our immediate needs for the truck we have been donated, which I call Bessie. We are in need of a qualified mechanic to repair the radius arm and I beam bushings in the suspension. If you have a good mechanic, or are a good mechanic, and have the chance to offer up the work we need, please let me know, or connect me with your contact, so we can get this work done. Thank you!

We were in need of new tires, as well. I wanted to share with you the incredible generosity of a local merchant named Allen Ogas, Jr., at the Discount Tire Store on Marks Street in Henderson. I called around looking for take-offs that had any tread left on them, and one of the folks I chatted with sent out an email on our behalf to all the Discount Tire Stores with my request. Within an hour, Allen called me up, and I thought I was going over to get the take-offs. Take-offs are the tires they take off to be replaced with the new ones purchased by customers. Sometimes, they are not ruined or totally unusable, but still have a bit of life in them. Well, since the tires that were on Bessie were so bald they were smooth like my husband’s freshly shaven head, any tread would be better. So, I headed on over for some take-offs. Or so I thought….

When I arrived, Allen surprised me with his gift to Project AngelFaces. He BOUGHT four BRAND NEW TIRES for Bessie, and had his crew put them on for us. Bessie drives like she’s never driven with her new kicks! It is a dream come true. I never even dreamed to have such a showing of generosity, but I am truly grateful to Allen, and to Discount Tire, for this fantastic show of support! What a great way to start the New Year! Thank you SO MUCH, Allen! WOW! (i’ve been saying that for 12 hours now…)
We still have more work to do, and I hope that you all are up to the challenge. We need to raise some funds! We need to get Bessie up to specs on the rest of the mechanical work, and to get a warranty on those new tires, and to get insurance, and new plates and registration, not to mention all the soil and other supplies that are needed for the New Garden Club Garden we are constructing. So, This serves as a celebration and an invitation, in one.

I am calling All Angels together, for a fundraising event for PAF! I would like to have it in February, and I would like it to be fantastically fun! We already have two businesses supporting us with prizes for raffle, and are looking to bring in more of them. We  would like to have a party, with music and dancing and entertainment fun with a raffle for great, useful items/experiences. Please call me direct with your ideas, your support, and your offerings: 702.460.9261.

Allen had never met or heard of me or Project AngelFaces when he got the call, but he was willing and able to show strong support for us. I know how challenging these times can be. I also know that every small thing adds up to a whole ton of support, so please don’t think that any offering is too small. Please step up, answer the call, and Get Involved! Cultivate Hope for the Future, with Project AngelFaces, TODAY!
Thanks so much, Angels. Your support makes a difference.Light and Gratitude–Rhonda K.
