Hello Angels! This is a BIG THANK YOU to the Brethren of Masons from Jack Haywood Lodge #6 who have adopted Garden Club Community Support Program of Project AngelFaces. On Saturday, 15 May, from 8:30 am to Noon, five of these wonderful Masons came out to support our work by working hard to help us pay for and move the first set of materials to build the new Garden Club Garden of Project AngelFaces in Henderson!  We all made quick work and had some fun meeting each other and taking the first steps for this endeavor. We are all very excited to be working to build a whole new garden, and a new program, for this community.  Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Archie and Nicole Mac Arthur, for making this happen together with Project AngelFaces. I am so very grateful!

We also want to send a BIG THANK YOU to Greener Vegas (www.greenervegas.org) for your instrumental support of our work in building these garden programs! Not only did your generosity of spirit and time make it possible to do this work on that fine May day by donating your flatbed truck, your driving skills, and your helpfulness with the load– including some more materials!!– but the materials we were moving came from the great work you are doing to reduce our wastefulness in Las Vegas! Everyone should check out Greener Vegas and what they are doing to support Las Vegas’ community, and become members too! Thanks to Zach, Tim, and Cynthia at Greener Vegas for making it possible for us to repurpose all these materials for use in building our new garden!! I am honored to be supported by such a fine group of families, and together, we are making a difference to the lives of seniors and youth in our valley!

THANK YOU GREENER VEGAS AND JACK HAYWOOD LODGE #6 MASONS FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR WORK!

NOW, I HOPE TO SEE ALL YOU ANGELS TOMORROW AT NEW VISTA RANCH FOR THE COMPOST BIN BUILDING PARTY! I HEAR TELL THERE’LL BE A BARBEQUE HAPPENING BY SOME OF THE FELLAS FROM THE AIR FORCE BASE TO HELP US ALONG IN OUR WORK! WE’RE GONNA HAVE A LOAD OF FUN, SO COME JOIN US!

Hello Angels! I hope this message finds you well, Healty, Happy, and enjoying this spring weather. I know I am enjoying every second of it! I want to apologize for the delay in the post following the recent 17 April event. It went to drafts instead of being posted, and I didn’t know it until today. I am getting used to this level of savvy with working the weblog, and I appreciate your patience with my process.

Consider this your personal invitation to the next Project AngelFaces event, and feel free to share it with your friends, too!

Come out to the New Vista Ranch on Sunday, May 23, 2010, from 9 am to 1 pm to help us build the new compost bin system for the Garden of Project AngelFaces on property.

This is the premier Community Support Program of Project AngelFaces, and it is growing very sweetly and steadily. We need to expand the compost system to accommodate the increase in garden beds in the garden.

We have the plans and all the materials we need to build the system. Now all we need to add is YOU! Bring your skills, perhaps your tools if you can (hammer, pry-bar, cordless drill, screwdriver, safety goggles, sawzall), and get ready to have a good time working with great people to build support for the vulnerable in our community. Don’t forget to bring your protection from the elements: water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, working gloves, closed toed shoes, sun hat, handkerchief, snacks, etc.

Please RSVP to this event to let me know you are coming, and bring your friends! I work to provide carpool when available, so if you’re in the Green Valley area and want to carpool, let me know and I’ll arrange it for you.

Thank you for being angels, and for SHOWING UP for the community!
Light and Gratitude–
Rhonda K.

On Saturday 17 April, from 7 am until 6:30 pm, over two hundred volunteers from throughout Las Vegas came to New Vista Ranch and gave the houses, and the garden, a makeover. The transformation is amazing and gorgeous! SO much work was done to improve the houses, and to bring the garden to it’s next level of potential productivity! If you visited the garden before that date, and you go see it now, you may not recognize the place.

All the beds are rearranged. There is no more grass or weeds. There is a beautiful wooden fence. We are still working on completing the transformation, and there is still much to do. I hope to see you all come visit and grow with us as we continue to build this garden, and this program, to serve the vulnerable in our community.

Special thanks to the following businesses that supported our work on this fantastic day: Schilling Horticulture Group and it’s employees, Lowe’s, Vista Rock and Landscape, Dwyer Engineering, New Vista Community, and all the clubs of Kiwanis from all over Las Vegas who joined us in the fun and worked so hard! Also, special thanks go out to McBride Magic and Mystery School for your generous contribution that enabled us to purchase some compost to amend the free dirt that we procured to fill the new beds! In addition, I want to honor my team leaders for the day: Tuan Pham, husband extraordinaire, Shaun and Stephanie Abel,  William Reymond, Daniel Harris and Francisco Soto-Angeles of Las Vegas Urban Farms, Susan Hass and Jennifer Von Bork of the Master Gardeners, and my photographer, Elaine Chen. Your contributions make a difference, and you are helping to build a lasting system that helps support the New Vista Community and the Gardeners who tend this garden.

You are all angels! I will see you at the next event, and thank you again for your participation with Project AngelFaces!
